I grew up surrounded by cancer; my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer and eventually passed away. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I found myself surprisingly, and frighteningly calm. During the surgery and subsequent treatment, everything felt surreal, like watching a film.
From my mother, I learned the importance of speaking openly about the disease. Cancer isn't something you can "see" or "hear" directly, so discussing it with family, friends, and colleagues was incredibly helpful for me.
Nearly five years after my successful surgery and treatment, I continue to encourage others affected by cancer, as well as their loved ones, to talk openly about it. Seeking support and taking breaks when needed is crucial. Remember, taking a break doesn't make you any less valuable, strong, or capable.
I've found that a dash of humor can transform even the toughest challenges into minor inconveniences, and I aim to enjoy every moment like I'm the showrunner of a sitcom called "Life." ;-)
