Shailaja, India

Hello, everyone. My name is Shailaja Nair, and I am deeply honored to share my story with you today on the occasion of World Cancer Day. I am a breast cancer survivor, and my journey is a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and incredible medical care.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, stage 2 ,2010,my world turned upside down. Fear and uncertainty surrounded me, but I was fortunate to receive treatment at the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute , Ahmedabad. It was here that I found not just medical expertise but also compassionate care that gave me the strength to face this battle inspite of other challenges.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the amazing team of doctors and nurses who guided me through this journey. Dr. Shashank Pandya, Dr. Bharat Parikh, Dr. Balchandra Pandya, and their dedicated team were my pillars of support. Their expertise, kindness, and encouragement gave me hope on even my toughest days. To those who were always there with a smile and a comforting word—thank you for making the journey less daunting.
The path to recovery was challenging. Chemotherapy, surgery and moments of doubt tested me, but I chose to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. With the support of my family, friends, and the incredible medical team, I made it through.
Today, as a survivor, I lead a normal life ,no medicines and stand here to remind everyone that cancer is not invincible. Early detection, timely treatment, and a positive mindset can make a world of difference. On this World Cancer Day, I urge everyone to prioritize their health, go for regular check-ups, and never ignore the signs your body gives you.
To those who are currently fighting cancer, please know that you are not alone. There is a strong community, skilled medical professionals, and an abundance of hope to help you through this journey.
Let us also acknowledge and celebrate the tireless efforts of doctors, researchers, and caregivers who work every day to make life better for cancer patients. Together, we can build a future where cancer no longer takes away our loved ones.
Thank you.
