Cancer was not the first ordeal I have faced in my life. I lost my right eye in an accident in 2016 and subsequently suffered a retinal detachment in my left eye, necessitating surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery resulted in damage to the optic nerve, leading to complete vision loss.
In 2024, I discovered a lump in my breast. Upon informing my kids, siblings and their children, they urged me to undergo medical examinations immediately.
Honestly, I was reluctant to know the truth as I could not bear any more shocks, but my family’s insistence led me to contact Baheya Foundation and schedule an appointment for a checkup.
Upon my arrival at the hospital, I was met at the hospital by a dedicated patient navigator who facilitated my admission process and provided ongoing support during my visit.
After undergoing many examinations, the diagnosis revealed a stage four malignant breast tumor, with the disease having spread to my spine and liver. The doctors concluded that surgery was not possible due to the spread of the disease, and thus my treatment would involve radiation therapy followed by 20 chemo sessions.
Despite my belief in fate, the news was a significant shock to me. The shock was even greater for my sons and my siblings' children, whom I consider my own.
During this period, I was surrounded by the love and support of my family and friends. Their support eased my burden and helped me endure the journey of treatment.
Currently, I am undergoing hormone therapy. I advise all women to prioritize their health and undergo regular check-ups, as early detection of the disease makes the treatment journey easier and significantly increases the chances of recovery.
