This is my story. The communication of the diagnosis was handled poorly. I went away confused and distressed. Two weeks later I met two senior members of the nursing team who were understanding, supportive and empathetic. The first experience at the diagnosis was poor; the follow up experience felt so much better and human-centered. If only I'd had that positive experience at the diagnosis too.

In 2024 I put on a one-man show about what I'd learned since the diagnosis.
