You are not alone
Person living with cancer

Ghada, Egypt

I'm Ghada Sayed, a 42-year-old from Alexandria, Egypt. My journey with breast cancer began in 2014. I was fortunate to have been diagnosed with cancer just as Baheya Foundation was opening, when its medical services were still being established. My husband was part of the team responsible for building the hospital, which is how I learned about it. I was the first patient to receive treatment there. Based on the medical examinations, my treatment plan was to begin with chemotherapy, followed by a lumpectomy, and then partial breast reconstruction.

My initial feelings after finding out about my illness were sadness, pain, and overwhelming fear for my children's future. I was deeply concerned about the potential changes to my body and appearance as a result of the disease and treatment. My husband, close friends and my family, especially my mother and brother, Ibrahim, were my greatest support during this difficult time. The treatment significantly impacted my social and professional life, as I experienced constant fatigue and difficulty in caring for my children and pursuing my dreams, along with the significant changes in my appearance, such as hair loss and weight gain, but engaging in sports, spending time in peaceful places, and photography helped me cope.

If I could offer one piece of advice to those facing this disease, it would be to take your time in making decisions and thoroughly research all aspects of the disease and treatment, including potential side effects and challenges.

What struck me most about Baheya was the sense of warmth and comfort felt by the patients, making it feel like a second home. I wanted to provide emotional support to other patients, so I joined Baheya's digital marketing team to answer patients' questions and inquiries. It brings me great joy to be able to help even one person.
