You are not alone
Person living with cancer

Gary, Australia

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. Since then, I have undergone surgery, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy. The cancer has now progressed to stage 4 after metastasizing to my ribs and spine, and I have been categorized as palliative. I used to have a great job and felt reasonably fit, healthy, and happy, but that all changed over the past few years.

I had to give up work, and due to the treatment, I constantly feel ill and in pain. This has led to weight gain and has prevented me from doing the things I once enjoyed. One of the hardest challenges has been the loneliness and isolation. I feel that many people seem hesitant to talk about cancer or to ask how I am doing. Fortunately, I have a wonderful family, and it is their support, especially from my wonderful wife, that keeps me going.
