Batkhishig, Mongolia

Hello, my name is Batkhishig Baldorj. I am a 48 year old construction engineer, construction consulting engineer of Mongolia, and a mountaineer. I live with my husband and three children.
On May 18, 2023, I set a major goal for myself and successfully reached the summit of Lhotse, one of the highest peaks in the world, standing at 8,516 meters. Although I was in poor physical condition during the climb, I pushed through and successfully completed the ascent. However, after descending, my health deteriorated, and I was so exhausted that I could barely walk.
In October 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 2 malignant breast cancer during the climb, I had no idea that I had cancer. I underwent breast surgery on December 21, 2023, and since then, I have undergone 12-14 hour chemotherapy sessions and 20 rounds of radiation treatment, four times in total. Chemotherapy was incredibly difficult, leaving my whole body sore and weak. But I realized that the only way to overcome it was by staying positive. My sister's encouragement and care were crucial in motivating me to keep going.
From that point on, I took up new hobbies like walking, meditating, and dancing whenever I went for my treatment.
In 2024, I set another ambitious goal to climb Manaslu, the 8th highest peak in the world, standing at 8,163 meters. I thought this challenge would help me heal both physically and mentally. After completing my treatment, I traveled to my father’s homeland in western Mongolia to recharge and gain energy. Then, on September 24, 2024, I achieved my goal and successfully reached the summit of Manaslu, symbolizing my victory over cancer.
There is always an opportunity for everyone to take care of their health. As someone who has experienced this disease, I urge you to love yourself by getting checked regularly, at least once a year.
