Person living with cancer

Azza, Egypt

My challenge began in early 2016 when I started noticing lumps in my breast.
Throughout this period, until the end of 2019, I underwent numerous medical examinations to check on my condition, but the diagnosis at the end of 2019 was devastating.

I am Azza Ali, a breast cancer survivor. Divorced for 13 years with no children, I found myself facing this challenging journey alone. In 2017, a doctor friend, aware of my condition, recommended that I seek treatment at Baheya Hospitals and Centers, a place I had never heard of before.

Following his advice, I visited Baheya where I received comprehensive medical examinations using the latest technology, all without any financial burden. This was crucial for me, given my limited income as a government employee.

In 2019, at my follow-up appointment, the doctor confirmed my worst fear: I have cancer. I was emotionally devastated and felt like my life had come to a standstill. However, the medical team including doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals, provided unwavering support.

My treatment plan involved 25 radiation therapy sessions after the surgery. I chose to hide my diagnosis from my siblings, not wanting to burden them with my worries. However, they eventually found out and were incredibly supportive throughout my entire treatment.

During my illness, I learned about the various services offered by Baheya Foundation to support patients. So, I participated in the psychological support sessions with specialists, which have been invaluable to me and continue to provide great comfort till now.

Thanks to God’s grace, I am now in the hormonal treatment phase and nearing the end of my treatment journey. I am grateful for this experience and thankful for the disease, which introduced me to such a compassionate and supportive community.
